2003 Cadillac Escalade
The 2003 Cadillac Escalade is the founding member of the Escalade line
that now includes the EXT crossover SUV/pick-up and the huge extended
Cadillac Escalade ESV, a match for the Chevy Suburban. The 2003 Cadillac
Escalade has a slightly less powerful engine and serves a different purpose
than the other two but it can still tow with the best and naturally, has
the high degree of luxury we expect from Cadillac. Specifically, it was
built to out-do the rest of the SUV market and, when it comes to a solid
combination of luxury and performance, the 2003 Cadillac Escalade has
achieved just that.
Available Models
The 2003 Cadillac Escalade is offered in two versions, 2WD or All-Wheel
Drive (AWD). The interior features are the same for both models.
Interior Features
OnStar System with one-year service that includes navigation, roadside
assistance and concierge services. Air conditioning with tri-zone automatic
climate control (including rear controls), combine with cruise control,
leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals, memory system (driver seat,
pedals, mirrors) and heated front and second row seats to provide the
ultimate level of occupant comfort.
Styling and comfort are further enhanced by wood interior trim, tilt
leather/wood-wrapped power steering wheel with stereo controls, an overhead
console (universal garage-door opener, rear radio controls, rear headphone
jacks) and a Bose AM/FM/cassette with in-dash 6-disc CD changer. Additional
options such as DVD, XM satellite radio and a power sunroof are also available
to the consumer who wants to have some extra as a cherry on top.
Exterior Features
The 2003 Cadillac Escalade models all share a distinctive front-end, distinguished
by the large Cadillac wreath and crest and characteristic egg-crate grille.
Tow hooks recessed into the front fascia and rectangular fog lamps add
more function in a stylish detail. At the rear, the functional step bumper
is accompanied by a standard Class VII trailer hitch.
Performance
The 2WD Escalade is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine capable of 285
horsepower at 5200rpm and 325lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm. This provides
7700 lbs of towing power. The 6.0-liter Vortec V8 engine in the AWD Escalade
has a power output 345 horsepower at 6000rpm and 380lb-ft of torque at
4000rpm. The AWD can tow up to 8500 lbs and a 4-speed automatic transmission
does the shifting and provides the following specs for fuel economy; 14/18
mpg (city/hwy) from the 2WD and 12/15 mpg for the AWD model. Load-leveling
suspension, automatic shock-absorber control, traction control and many
other high-quality mechanical features add to the handling and performance
capability of the Escalade.
Safety and Security
The 2003 Escalade has a remarkable collection of standard safety equipment.
4-wheel antilock disc brakes combine with a front-seat dual-level air
bag system for driver and passenger where the passenger side senses the
passenger's presence. A rear-obstacle detection system is also standard,
making parking a breeze.
