2003 Chevrolet Suburban
Larger and mightier than the ½-ton, the ¾-ton 2003 Chevrolet
Suburban adds a stronger engine for even more transporting and towing
power. For families that are more like baseball teams in size, the 2003
Chevrolet Suburban is designed with passenger convenience and driver satisfaction
at the head of its list of priorities. And it certainly achieves this
goal, combing comfort, brawn and safety in a tidy, though large, package.
Available Models
The ¾-ton 2003 Chevrolet Suburban is offered in two models: LS
(base) and LT. Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations are
both available.
Interior Features
The four-door 2003 Chevrolet Suburban has enough interior space to seat
nine passengers. 2003 Suburbans have a new electrical architecture that
results in a 'smarter' vehicle. The instrument panel and cluster have
been redesigned to accommodate this increased processing power. Also new
is a dual-zone manual-control heating, ventilation and air conditioning
(HVAC) system. Additional standards include cruise control, 6-way power
front seats, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD player.
New Bose sound systems are optional, giving the cabin concert-like sound
quality. An available rear-seat entertainment system that includes a DVD
player with a flip-down screen will keep the kids occupied for hours.
These features are only part of the options list, which also includes
the digital XM Satellite Radio system.
Exterior Features
The Suburban's exterior mirrors are little feats of engineering. They
feature power-tilt glass and power folding to protect them in narrow spaces;
heating elements that clear frost, snow or ice; left-side electrochromatic
glass that dims glaring headlights; puddle lights; new turn signal indicators
in the glass and a memory feature. A new, optional power-adjustable camper
mirror can be extended to a vehicle width of as much as 106 inches.
Performance
For the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, new oxygen sensors provide enhanced durability
and reduced emissions during engine warmup. The ¾-ton Suburban
adds a beefier V8 engine in comparison to the ½-ton model, which
is capable of 320 horsepower at 5000 rpm. A battery rundown protection
feature automatically turns off the headlamps, park lamps and interior
lights after 10 minutes if left on inadvertently.
Customers looking for added power and handling can opt for the available
engine upgrade and Quadrasteer. The engine is an 8.1-liter V8 that dishes
out an impressive 340 horsepower at 4200 rpm. Quadrasteer uses all four-wheels,
turning the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the front wheels
for tight turning in low-speed parking maneuvers.
Safety and Security
As always, safety is a primary feature of the Chevrolet Suburban. The
Suburban comes with standard four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brakes
featuring dual-piston calipers with Dynamic Rear Proportioning and dual-level
airbags with a passenger-sensing system.
