2003 Chevy Avalanche
The 2003 Chevy Avalanche is nothing short of being one of the most innovative
vehicles on the road. With a simple adjustment of the highly practical
Convert-a-Cab feature, the Avalanche changes from an SUV into a tough,
dependable Chevy pickup. The 2003 entry of this award-winning vehicle
features a number of upgrades, including an improved electrical system,
more safety features and a redesigned interior. With all sorts of changes
on top of a rock-solid design, the 2002 Motor Trend "Truck of the
Year" looks to be off to the races towards another banner year.
Available Models
The 2003 Chevy Avalanche is available in a ½-ton 1500 model, a
heavier ¾-ton 2500 model and a special North Face Edition for outdoor
enthusiasts.
Interior Features
The crew crab 2003 Chevy Avalanche can seat six people. The new multiplexed
electrical system can monitor and report on up to 34 vehicle functions,
keeping the driver abreast of everything that is happening in the vehicle.
The aforementioned Covert-a-Cab system and Midgate come standard on all
models, allowing the 2003 Chevy Avalanche to crossover from an SUV to
a pickup truck. Other standard features include battery rundown protection,
multi-zone manual climate control and AM/FM stereo with CD player.
For options, customers can equip their vehicle with XM Satellite Radio,
a rear-seat entertainment system with DVD and flip-down screen, and/or
a Bose audio system with six-channel amplifier and six speakers. Also
offered is a driver convenience package, which includes eight-button personalized
steering wheel controls with access to the highly convenient OnStar system.
For outdoor lovers, the North Face Edition offers an interior with Medium
Gray trim, door trim panels, floor mats with The North Face logo and a
white instrument cluster.
Exterior Features
The exterior of the North Face Edition is also given the look of a vehicle
at home in the wild. The exterior color, Sage Green, is unique to the
North Face Edition, with Sunset Orange, Onyx, Black, Pewter and Summit
White available as well. Also included are two Summit Pod backpacks and
Water Duffalo storage bags. Across all models is a standard 5.3-ft cargo
bed that grows to 8.1-ft when the Avalanche is in pickup mode.
Performance
There is no shortage of performance options with the 2003 Chevy Avalanche.
1500 models are equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 with 285 horsepower at 5200
rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The bigger 2500s get an 8.1-litre
V8 with 340 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 455 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm,
resulting in increased acceleration and staying power. 2500s are also
given a stiffer suspension system to account for their heavier weight.
All models offer 2WD and 4WD configurations.
For 1500s, a Z71 Off-Road suspension package is available with 4WD models,
featuring limited-slip differential, upgraded suspension, skid plates,
high-capacity air cleaner, rubber floormats and deep-tinted midgate glass.
2WDs are offered an optional Z66 on-road package that brings traction
control and sport suspension with rear self-leveling.
Safety and Security
The Chevy Avalanche has numerous safety features to protect all occupants.
The Avalanche provides early compliance to 2005 federal seat standards
for child restraint anchorages with its LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers
for Children) system for child seats. In addition, the Avalanche also
has an advanced dual front and side passenger-sensing airbag system and
4-wheel antilock disc brakes.
