2003 Dodge Ram 1500
Those tough-looking trucks you see barreling down the road are Dodge
Rams. Perhaps the sleekest of the entire full-size pickup lot, the 2003
Dodge Ram is a truck-owners dream. The Ram 1500 is offered in such a wide
variety of sizes and configurations that there is sure to be a model right
for customers in the market for a half-ton pickup.
The 1500 is the heart of the Dodge Ram line, providing the most versatility
of them all. It has power, good handling, unquestionable dependability
and an attitude to boot. For 2003, Dodge Ram further distinguishes itself
with two new packages: 'Off-Road' and 'Work Special.' It shouldn't be
difficult to figure out what these new models are good at.
Available Models
The 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 is offered in two body styles: a two-door regular
cab and a Quad Cab four-door crew cab. Both come in ST and uplevel SLT
trims and with cargo beds of 6.3 ft or 8 ft.
Interior Features
Regular cabs have two doors and can seat up to three people across the
front. Quad Cab crew cabs have two front-hinged rear doors and can squeeze
in six. Entry-level ST models have air conditioning, power steering, vinyl
upholstery, cupholders, an AM/FM/cassette player, a digital clock, a tachometer,
variable-intermittent wipers and a black vinyl floor covering.
Uplevel SLT trims mix extra comfort with the standard ruggedness found
with all Dodge Rams. They add a tilt steering wheel, cruise control, cloth
upholstery, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, an AM/FM/CD
player, a trip computer, carpeting and floormats. There are countless
options to choose from, including a Laramie package that fills the Ram
1500 with comfort features and essentially creates a new model.
Exterior Features
The new 'Off-Road' package provides unique 17-inch aluminum wheels, LT275/70R17
off-road tires, tow hooks, fog lamps and special 'Off-Road' badging for
a look of adventure. The 'Work Special' shows its intentions with a steel
rear bumper, dark gray, color-coded front fascia, gray grille surround
and bars and steel wheels.
Performance
2WD and 4WD configurations are available with the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500.
Three engines are offered. The first, on 2WD ST models (except the Quad
Cab long bed), is a 3.7-liter V6 with 215 horsepower and 235 lb-ft. of
torque. The second engine covers the rest of the model lineup. It is a
4.7-liter V8 model with 240 horsepower and 300 lb-ft. of torque. The third
engine is optional, and it is tough. A 5.7-liter V8, it pumps out 345
horsepower and 375 lb-ft. of torque.
For adventures off the beaten path, the new 'Off-Road' model has a 3.92
rear axle, a limited-slip differential, transfer case skid plate, skid
plates for the front and rear axles and unique shocks.
Safety and Security
4-wheel disc brakes, rear antilock brakes and dual front airbags are standard.
Curtain side airbags are available as an option.
