2003 Pontiac Sunfire
This year's 2003 Pontiac Sunfire has a renewed focus on the 2-door Sporty
Coupe. With more power, the Sunfire is an agile mover that will satisfy
the demands of most in its target demographic; whether they are new families
or young people who want to cruise the strip.
However, having dropped the Sedan from its 2003 line up the people responsible
for Pontiac styling are focussing on the latter group, the strip cruisers
and performance driven out there. The Sunfire's new look is all about
sporty style that is matched by great performance, good road control and
handling capability and a generous selection of standard features. However,
it continues to be a great and affordable package.
Available Models
The 2003 Pontiac Sunfire is available with three different options packages,
the 1SA, 1SB and 1SC, where the 1SC is the top of the line and includes
a number of performance upgrades.
Interior Features
The 2003 Pontiac Sunfire has a choice of either Taupe or Graphite cloth
upholstery with a sporty graphics splash across them. Cargo space is enhanced
by a split-folding rear bench seat and interior styling has been improved
from last year with classic round air outlets on a new instrument panel.
A 200-watt 8-speaker Monsoon sound-system is available for either the
1SB or 1SC models and XM Satellite Radio is also an option. XM Satellite
Radio tunes in to 100 channels coast to coast.
Exterior Features
The exterior features for the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire have also been upgraded
for this year to offer improved aerodynamics. Other sporty or performance
enhancements include a rear spoiler, alloy wheels and optional power sunroof.
Performance
A car with this level of performance rarely has a sticker price this low
or fuel economy that is this good. The Sunfire has a 2.2-liter 4-cyl with
140 hp. Transmission choices include a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual
transmission, with the automatics available for 1SB and 1SC. The 1SC features
a performance sport suspension system. This car really zooms along and,
at 23/33 mpg (city/hwy) for the automatic; you don't have to feel guilty
when you hit the gas-pedal.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags are standard across the board for all the Sunfire models.
On the 1SA and 1SB models, the brakes are front disc and rear power-assisted
drums. However, optional on the 1SB and standard on the 1SC are 4-wheel
antilock discs brakes. The 1SC is also equipped with traction control.
