2003 Subaru Forester
The all-new 2003 Subaru Forester is slotted in the compact sport-utility
segment, though it seems bent on pushing the characteristics of the class
to the limit. Simply put, the Forester defies categorization. It has a
tall wagon's design while offering many of the nimble advantages of other
Subaru subcompact car models. Add in the security and handling of Subaru's
all-wheel drive system, and the result in a versatile vehicle that it
wholly unique.
Available Models
The 2003 Subaru Forester is offered in three distinct trim levels: X,
XS and XS Premium.
Interior Features
The four-door 2003 Subaru Forester seats five passengers. Comfort is key
with the Forester, regardless of trim level. Entry-level X models load
on the features. Air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, cloth
upholstery, front bucket seats, a height-adjustable driver seat with lumbar
adjustment, a center console, cupholders, a split folding rear seat, power
mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, an AM/FM/weatherband/CD
player and a digital clock are just some of the things that make the ride
enjoyable.
The XS naturally provides more, including automatic climate control,
a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated power mirrors, heated front seats
and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer. With the XS Premium, a power sunroof
is added and the option for leather upholstery becomes available.
Exterior Features
The Forester has the distinct Subaru look, reminiscent of the classic
Outback style. XS models have steel gray body side cladding and bumpers,
while the XS Premium features stylish a monotone look for the bumpers
and side cladding.
Performance
The 2003 Subaru Forester is equipped with a 2.5-liter boxer engine. It
is horizontally opposed and is capable of producing 165 horsepower at
5600 rpm and 166 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. Both 4-speed automatic
transmission and 5-speed manual transmission are offered. The manual transmission
system is truly convenient. Manual-transmission models provide Subaru's
Hill Holder feature designed to prevent rolling on inclines with the clutch-pedal
depressed.
Safety and Security
Subaru has always taken safety and security very seriously, and the 2003
Forester exemplifies this principle. Along with standard all-wheel drive,
the Forester also features dual front airbags, front side airbags, front-seat
active head restraints, antilock brakes and daytime running lights.
