2004 Honda S2000

The old Honda S2000 was nice, but this year's model is downright amazing. It has a blistering new engine upgrade that promises to deliver even more high-revving action, plus an attending performance package that knows just how to maximize the newly revamped power.

Honda's sports car uses a light, compact engine that draws its inspiration from the racing department of the manufacturer. Essentially a street-legal race car, the 2004 Honda S2000 has all the accessories you need for high speed driving, including big, gripping tires and a driver-oriented cockpit.

Interior Features
The two-door Honda S2000 convertible is a two-seater. There isn't much cargo volume to speak of, though the trunk will accommodate medium-sized items. Really, it's all about performance with this sports car.

With this in mind, the 2004 Honda S2000 is given a cockpit with a highly functional digital instrument panel. The display features a large, semicircular, bar-type tachometer divided into 100-rpm increments. The tachometer flashes red when the engine redline is reached.

Of course, that's not all. A highly-visible digital speedometer readout is below the tachometer display, as well as readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, trip and cumulative mileage odometers, plus a quartz digital clock.

Exterior Features
The 2004 Honda S2000 convertible uses a power soft top and glass rear window. It also features lightweight alloy wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE050 Tires.

The power mirrors are body colored and the headlights are high-intensity-discharge as well.

Performance
Honda's S2000 uses a centralized design for the powertrain. Thus, they put the engine entirely behind the front-axle centerline. This creates a sharper steering response and more cornering precision. With lower overall gear ratios for 2004, the new S2000 is more capable than ever.

The improved engine is a new 2.2-liter VTEC inline 4-cylinder model. It gives the rear-wheel drive roadster better efficiency, greater combustion and more power for 2004, specifically in the area of torque production. The results: 240 horsepower at 7800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 7500 rpm.

6-speed manual transmission is standard. Electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering lets the driver control the roadster with a satisfying precision.

In order to maintain a stable, smooth ride at high speeds, the 2004 Honda S2000 employs independent in-wheel double wishbone suspension with coil springs.

Safety and Security
Safety features include dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, side-impact door beams and an emergency trunk opener.
