2004 Jeep Wrangler

Perhaps no other vehicle on the planet is more connected with the outdoors than the Jeep Wrangler. You instantly associate the legendary open-top model with rugged driving and adventure as it passes you by. And if you don't have one for yourself, the feeling that then creeps into your belly can best be described with one apt word: envy.

The soft top with plastic side windows is the standard configuration, though a hard top with full steel doors, roll-up windows and tinted glass is available on all models. Also optional is a dual-top package that includes both a hard top and a soft top in matching colors.

Available Models
The 2004 Jeep Wrangler is offered in five trims: SE, X, Sport, Sahara and Rubicon. Sahara and Rubicon models are covered separately.

Interior Features
The 2004 Jeep Wrangler is not the model you want to get if you often need to transport a lot of goods, unless you don't mind filling up the back seat with stuff. Then, there's quite a bit of room to work with.

SE, X and Sport models are on the entry-level side of things. Wranglers aren't really known for their decadent interiors because that's not what they're about. Standard on these models are front bucket seats, front carpeting, a mini floor console and variable-intermittent wipers.

Air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD player, tinted rear glass and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are optional on most models.

Exterior Features
For 2004, a new Ravine aluminum wheel design is optional on Sport models. Skid plates, an outside mounted spare tire and all-terrain tires are standard.

Performance
There are two engines offered with the 2004 Jeep Wrangler. Base SE models are the sole trim to get a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It gives the peppy Wrangler 147 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 165 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

X and Sport models outdo the base SE with their powertrain configuration. It includes a 4.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions are available with both engines.

2004 Jeep Wrangler X and Sport models include a Quadra-Coil suspension and a Command-Trac four-wheel drive transfer case. In other words, they are right at home in the slop.

Safety and Security
Standard safety features include next-generation airbags, a driver's side constant force retractor, self-adjusting low-tension three-point belts and height-adjustable shoulder belts. Antilock brakes are optional.
