2004 Volvo S60 (T5 and R Models)

The S60 is already the most popular car on the Volvo lot, one known for delivering an exceptionally smooth and safe ride. It is also rather aggressive when it needs to be.

But previous models have nothing when it comes to power next to the all-new 2004 Volvo S60 R model. It boasts a high-performance engine, an array of advanced features that help collar all that the speed and energy and a style that is pure class.

However, the S60 is not the only Volvo vehicle to benefit from the new R concept. It is also offered with the 2004 V70 wagon.

Available Models
The 2004 Volvo S60 is offered in a total of four models: base, 2.5T, T5 and R. Base and 2.5T models are covered separately.

Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Volvo S60 seats five passengers with ease. For 2004, designers gave the S60 a new interior style. It includes a charcoal-colored trim and watch-bezel-style instrument surrounds.

The new S60 R model comes with standard leather upholstery, which is optional with the T5. There are many features the two share, however, including air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, a trip computer and a memory system (driver seat, mirrors).

The options for 2004 include a navigation system, a power sunroof and the On-Call Plus telematics system.

Exterior Features
Both the 2004 Volvo S60 T5 and R have alloy wheels. The R adds a rear spoiler.

All S60 models are quite environmentally friendly. They use Volvo's patented PremAir, which is an ozone reduction radiator coating.

Performance
The T5 is equipped with a 2.3-liter inline 5-cylinder engine that produces 247 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 243 lb-ft of torque at 2400 rpm. To this is mated a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

While T5s are front-wheel drive models, the all-new R is an all-wheel drive sedan. The new S60 R uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 5-cylinder engine. It features Dual Wide Range CVVT continuously variable valve timing, on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. The result is a whopping 300 horsepower at 5250 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 1950 rpm.

With the new 2004 Volvo S60 R, a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard. A 5-speed automatic system with a manual shift mode is available, however. Manual models change the power rating to 258 lb-ft of torque.

Safety and Security
Standard safety features include dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, traction control, an antiskid system, front-seat active head restraints and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
