2005 Cadillac Escalade ESV

The 2005 Cadillac Escalade ESV is the same as the massive Escalade - only it's more massive! 22 inches longer to be precise, and without the rear-wheel-drive, so all-wheel-drive V8 power all the way.

Whatever they were thinking at Cadillac, they were right! The Escalade has appeared on more videos, movie sets and the end of award show red carpets, than just about any other vehicle in the last couple of years. It has clearly become the carriage of choice for the rich and famous. Cadillac is once again king of the road, only this time the king is driving the biggest, most powerful luxury SUV on the planet.

Available Models
The 2005 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum Edition is the same as the basic one except that it has the options of the base as standard equipment- all of them. The shorter Escalade and the SUV/Truck crossover Escalade EXT are each covered in separate reviews.

Interior Features
The result of Escalade ESV's added size is 20 more inches of interior length to work with. This lets the Escalade ESV provide up to eight passengers with even more comfort and premium seating. All in all, it can offer a whopping 131.6 cubic feet of interior cargo volume.

The 2005 Escalade ESV is easier to describe by what is in it than by what is not. The ESV Platinum is even easier, it has everything you can think of plus some other stuff that you didn't know about, like heated and cooled cup holders.

However, a few highlights include OnStar, tri-zone auto climate control with supplementary rear controls, a memory system (driver seat, pedals, mirrors), heated and multi-way powered front and second-row seats, rear radio controls and a Bose AM/FM/cassette player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer. The Platinum Edition features added standard items such as special interior trim, DVD navigation and DVD entertainment.

Exterior Features
The ESV Platinum Edition also has a touched-up exterior style. It returns with standard factory-installed 20-inch chrome wheels, a slightly lowered stance, a chrome grille and Platinum lettering on the liftgate. However, it also comes with some real truck capability. It will tow up to 7300lbs and the trailering package is standard with load-levelling suspension, wiring harness and so on.

Performance
The Escalades lead the field for power in an SUV with a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 engine able to produce 345 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 4-speed electronic automatic transmission is standard but naturally, it is a gas-guzzler, with 13-17mpg (city/hwy).

All-wheel drive is also standard, giving the big, bold SUV plenty of confidence in bad weather. The Escalade ESV also features GM's StabiliTrak system with road-sensing suspension. In tandem, these two systems improve body stability, ride comfort, trailering performance, wheel control and overall handling.

Safety and Security
Safety continues to be a prime consideration for the Escalade ESV. Standard equipment includes antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, antiskid, dual front and front side airbags, all-speed traction control, a rear-obstacle detection system and a tire-pressure monitor.
