2005 Chrysler Crossfire

The 2005 Chrysler Crossfire, brought into production through a combination of Mercedes-Benz German technical expertise and Chrysler's American styling, has been touted as a merger of Route 66 and the autobahn. It is just that, with great performance values and premium interior amenities.

The Crossfire follows the pattern of Mercedes' SLK hardtop convertible. Stylish, smooth and powerful, this 2-door Roadster is a car enthusiasts should definitely consider.

Available Models
A new model created just 24 months after a concept version of the car was revealed at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and last year was offered in a single trim level. This year the Crossfire has more to offer. Buyers can choose between the Coupe or Convertible editions and have the option of taking the Base, Limited or SRT-6 Editions, this last being a supercharged performance model.

Interior Features
The two-seater 2005 Chrysler Crossfire has a bundle of premium amenities on the inside of even the Base version. However, the true luxury start\s with the Limited Edition, which features leather upholstery, heated bucket seats, power steering, air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, an 8-way power driver seat and a 4-way power passenger seat. The SRT-6 comes with unique leather/alcantara upholstery, to bring the luxury to another level.

The 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited comes with an Infinity Modulus audio system with an AM/FM/CD player and a 240-watt digital amplifier. There are six speakers, including dual subwoofers, to this setup, which is based on Infinity's Modulus home theater surround sound system. A Navigation system can be added as an optional extra.

Exterior Features
The 2005 Chrysler Crossfire has a long, lean front hood that flows into a compact, descending cockpit and styling that is definitively American in tone but nevertheless shows some of the Karmann parentage. Karmann, a long-time manufacturing partner of Daimler, contributed to the development of the Crossfire and you can see the influence in the exterior styling. As a final flourish, the rear spoiler moves up and down depending on the road speed.

Performance
The performance of the new Chrysler Crossfire is intended to stimulate drivers in the same way its form does designers and it was introduced last year with a 3.2-liter V6 engine that pumps out 215 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 229 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm. This engine was mated to an advanced six-speed manual transmission or optional five-speed electronically-controlled adaptive automatic transmission with AutoStick®. This engine, capable of 60mph in 6.6 seconds, hasn't changed this year.

The difference is that buyers of the 2005 Crossfire have a significantly higher-powered option. The SRT-6 offers 330 hp, at 6100 rpm and 310 lbs-ft of torque, at 3500. This car is a third again as powerful and it comes with a performance-tooled suspension system to boot. Big 18-inch alloy wheels are up front, with fatter 19-inchers in the rear which, combined with the performance suspension, keep the Crossfire on the road and hugging the turns, despite the excess of power available. The SRT-6 comes with a standard 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift gate. All models are rear-wheel drive.

Safety and Security
Safety is a top priority of the 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes with brake assist are standard, as are an antiskid/traction control system, a tire-pressure monitor and torso side airbags. Crossfire's Electronic Stability Program integrates single brake application and throttle intervention for yaw control and wheel spin control. The 2005 model also comes with optional Navigation System to ensure that you can get where you are going, though if you were going to get lost, the Crossfire would seem a nice car to be lost in.
