2005 Honda Accord (DX and LX)

On the entry level side of Accord models for 2005 are the DX and LX trims, two vehicles with renowned Honda engineering, but not too many standard features. Well, at least that holds true for the DX-it is the price-buster of the lot, an Accord that truly covers the bare necessities.

More standard equipment, revised styling and a new hybrid vehicle mark the big changes to this year's Accord family. With the Hybrid, the 2005 Honda Accord joins the Insight and Civic Hybrid in offering an advanced alternative to traditional gas-consuming cars.

Available Models
The 2005 Honda Accord lineup includes coupes and sedans in DX, LX and EX trims, as well as the new Hybrid sedan (EX and Hybrid covered separately).

Interior Features
The majority of the styling updates occur on the exterior of the 2005 Honda Accord, but new models do receive illuminated steering controls. As always, two-door coupes and four-door sedans sit five, with sedans providing a little more cargo volume.

DX models aren't devoid of comfort, just excess. They include cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console, power windows, an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a rear defogger, visor mirrors and floormats.

LX trims add cruise control, air conditioning, an interior air filter, power mirrors and door locks, remote keyless entry, illuminated visor mirrors, manual driver-seat height adjustment and rear-seat trunk pass. LX models with a V6 also include an 8-way power driver seat, an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and steering-wheel radio controls.

Exterior Features
New wheel covers and a new taillight design mark the look of the 2005 Accord.

Performance
There are two engines used by DX and LX models this year. The base engine is a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam inline 4-cylinder model. It is able to produce 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic are the two transmission types available with this powertrain.

Standard with LX V6 models is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It can be teamed to either 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

Safety and Security
Standard safety is greatly improved for the 2005 year, and it doesn't depend on the trim level you purchase. Honda makes side curtain and front side airbags standard with both LX and DX trim levels-previously, they were only offered on select models.
They join dual threshold airbags, antilock brakes and an emergency inside trunk release.
