2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

If you thought the regular Jeep Wrangler was impressive, then you've obviously never been privileged to hear of the Wrangler Rubicon. Once you do-and more importantly, once you take one for a drive-your jaw will surely hit the floor.

Simply put, the 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the most rugged model that Jeep offers. Coming from the Chrysler division that essentially deals in ruggedness, that is saying something. You don't buy a Wrangler Rubicon unless you plan to do a little more than street driving.

Available Models
The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is offered as a sole model. However, joining the Rubicon later in the model year is an extended-length Rubicon Unlimited.

Interior Features
The interior of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon isn't decadent. That's not what it is made for. With the Unlimited, you get an additional 1.4 inches of rear leg room and more cargo volume behind the rear seat.

Standard features include air conditioning, full metal doors with roll-up windows, a full-length center console and an AM/FM CD player.

On the options list are a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a lockable storage feature and a security group package. It adds an automatic day/night rearview mirror, a compass, an outside-temperature indicator and a theft-deterrent system.

Exterior Features
The Rubicon's LT245/75R16 tires add an extra half-inch of ground clearance. Rubicon also uses Goodyear Wrangler "Maximum Traction/Reinforced" 31-inch tall tires with a tread pattern that wraps around the sidewall to help grab ledges along the trail. It includes a three-ply sidewall and advanced silica compound for durability and puncture resistance.

Other exterior design cues include heavy gauge diamond-plate sill guards, 16-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels and a "Rubicon" graphic placed prominently on each side of the hood.

Performance
The Rubicon's off-road system includes locking front and rear differentials, front and rear Dana model 44 axles and a 4:1 low-range transfer case.

The exclusive Rock-Trac transfer case uses the 4:1 "low range" to slow vehicle speed and give the driver more control, while increasing the amount of torque available at the wheels. In addition, the front and rear axles include "air-actuated" Tru-Lok locking differentials to maximize traction.

The 2005 Rubicon and Unlimited Rubicon use a 4.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. It produces 190 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. The I6 can be had with the new 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic system.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags, a roll bar and 4-wheel disc brakes are standard with the 2005 Rubicon.
