2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500
The 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500 is longer and heavier than the regular length
Yukon. The XL 1500 gets an increase in strength in addition to its larger
frame, more than accommodating the power requirements of owners. Like
all 2003 Yukons, the 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500 features a whole array of
enhancements, providing greater safety/security, performance, ride, handling,
comfort and refinement than customers thought possible.
Available Models
The ½-ton 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500 comes in 2WD and 4WD configurations.
It is joined in the XL line by a ¾-ton Yukon XL 2500 model.
Interior Features
Depending on the configuration of first and second row seats (benches
with 3-person seating and buckets seats with 2), the 2003 GMC Yukon XL
1500 can hold between seven and nine people very easily. There are enough
features inside to make the ride comfortable for the driver and all the
passengers. Just taking a look at a few confirms this, as the standards
list is long and varied: AM/FM CD/cassette player, tri-zone automatic
climate control, tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control,
cloth upholstery, 6-way power front seats with lumbar adjustment, heated
power mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, tachometer,
engine-hour meter and overhead console.
For options, one impressive feature is an available DVD entertainment
system, featuring a 7-inch flip-down screen, two wireless (infrared) headphones,
a wireless remote control and three sets of auxiliary video and audio
inputs.
Exterior Features
The 2003 GMC Yukon XL 1500 certainly has size on its side with a wheelbase
of 130 inches. For 2003, a new four-position headlamp switch gives drivers
the ability to turn off the daytime running lamps and automatic headlamps
for one ignition cycle, when necessary, simply by reverse-rotating the
headlamp switch.
Performance
For 2003, standard electronic throttle control and new oxygen sensors
for all Vortec V8s improve drivability, fuel economy and emissions. The
standard engine with Yukon XL 1500 is a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine, capable
of 285 horsepower. 4-speed automatic transmission takes cares of the shifting,
while bumps are smoothed out with independent front suspension with torsion
bars and 5-link coil spring rear suspension.
Exclusive to models with the XL 1500's standard engine is the option
to add StabiliTrak. An advanced stability system, StabiliTrak's sophisticated
sensors tap into the suspension, steering, antilock braking and traction
control systems, constantly measuring steering angle, wheel speeds, brake
pressure, lateral and longitudinal acceleration and yaw rate (the vehicle
rotation rate), such as when cornering.
Safety and Security
Four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brakes with dual piston calipers
and Dynamic Rear Proportioning ensure quick stops when needed. A sophisticated
dual-stage, dual-level airbag system is also standard, which uses a sensing
system to automatically deactivate the passenger-side airbag under certain
conditions to protect children.
