2005 Chevrolet Reviews

Visit Chevrolet for more information on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 SS.

The SS in the title above refers to "Super Sport," and the makers at Chevy have gone to great pains to make sure you will not be disappointed with such an audacious name. Take a gander at the specs, but more importantly take one for a test drive, and you will probably agree that they've done well for themselves.

The 2005 Chevy Silverado SS is a basically a 1500 extended cab on steroids. It is mean, fast and rugged, and it is meant for people who like to get a little wild. Of course, it has all the finer points of driving satisfaction covered, like safety and comfort.

Available Models
The 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 SS is a sole model trim. 1500 regular cabs, extended cabs and crew cabs, plus 2500s and HD models, are all covered in individual reviews.

Interior Features
With a front bench seat and a 3-person rear bench seat, the Silverado SS will accommodate a total of six passengers.

In addition to its power, the SS is also quite comfortable. A look at the standard features list reveals such items as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, deep tinted glass, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, a trip computer, an automatic day/night rearview mirror, a compass, carpeting and more.

Options for 2005 include the OnStar system, steering wheel radio controls, an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and satellite radio.

Exterior Features
The Chevy Silverado SS has a 6.5-ft. short cargo bed. For 2005, it also has the largest ever 20-inch wheel and tire combination for exceptional road holding and cornering capabilities.

This year the Silverado SS is available with a power sunroof option. Silver Birch Metallic is offered in addition to Victory Red.

Performance
The 2005 Chevy Silverado SS is designed to perform, and it doesn't disappoint. Under its hood is a 6.0-liter/ 364-cu. in high-output LQ9 version Vortec V8 engine. Topped-out, it will produce 345 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 375 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

To this engine is mated a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission whose 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear contribute to the truck's impressive performance.

The Silverado SS grabs corners and whips around them, and it plows through mud and grime. This is made possible by its large wheels and a standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with viscous-coupled transfer case.

Safety and Security
Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and daytime running lights.
