Visit Ford for more information on the Ford F-150.

The Ford Motor Company is without parallel in the pick-up truck business. Pioneer's of the production line in the early years of the industry, Ford continues to adhere to a philosophy of innovation, value and durability. The 2005 Ford F-150 is a perfect example of that philosophy. Winner of 30 awards in the last year, since introduction of their all-new design, including North American Truck of the Year, the F-150 sets new standards for toughness, strength, safety, interior spaciousness, refinement, driving dynamics, stability, functionality, cargo capacity, comfort and style.

This overview describes the upscale end of the F-150 family. In 2005 that includes the F-150 FX4, the F-150 Lariat and the new F-150 King Ranch editions. Offered in Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew Cab styles, and with 5.5ft, 6.5ft, and 8ft Styleside and Flareside beds to choose from, the 2005 Ford F-150 is proving once again why they rule the large pick-up sales category.

Since the redesigned F-150 was introduced, all models have had four doors, even regular cabs (an industry first). In addition, Regular Cab and SuperCab extended models have a passenger compartment that is 6 inches longer, providing more space inside for occupants and their gear. For the Regular Cab, it means 13 inches of secure storage space behind the seat.

Available Models
The 2005 Ford F-150 is offered in a total of six solid trims: XL, STX, XLT, FX4, Lariat and King Ranch. XL, STX and XLT models are covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
A number of new interior designs are offered, featuring instrument panels that reflect the particular style of each model. New for 2005, King Ranch models feature Castano Leather upholstery power-adjustable heated captain's chairs, and unique interior colors and styles including unique logo floor mats, woodgrain trim and colors.

The 2005 also continues with a flow-through center console, giving customers the option of two captain's chairs with a floor shifter on FX4 and Lariat models. The floor shifter and modular overhead rail system also return this year. A rear seat DVD entertainment system is offered as optional equipment with SuperCrew crew cabs.

Exterior Features
Beds of 5.5-ft, 6.5-ft and 8-ft are available with straight Styleside or flared-fender Flareside choices. A class-exclusive new standard Tailgate Assist feature helps owners of all statures open and close the gate. The King Ranch trim has exterior badges on tailgate and fenders, unique wheel centers, a color-coordinated grille, Arizona Beige running boards and power-fold heated side mirrors with approach lamps.

Performance
A new engine choice allows those with lesser power requirements an energy-saving alternative. A 4.2-liter V-6, it produces 202 hp at 4,350 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 3,750 rpm, and is offered for the first time with a manual transmission. This engine choice is available on models with some of the smaller bed and cab configurations, on 2-wheel drive models only.

The new F-150's fully boxed frame is approximately nine times stiffer torsionally than its predecessor. This means a maximum tow rating of 9,500 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 2,900 pounds-making the new F-150 the most capable full-size pickup under 8,500 pounds.
The other engine choices include the 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter Triton V-8s, with 231 hp and 293 lb-ft of torque and 300hp and 365 lb-ft, respectively. FX4 models are designed for off-road use and have the 4WD and accompanying performance enhancements to prove it, that is, skid plates and off-road suspension and more. The Lariat and King Ranch models offer a 2WD configuration.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard on all 2005 models. A rear-obstacle detections system is optional. New this year, Occupant Position Sensing technology for the first-row passenger allows adjusted deployment of the airbag for increased safety
