2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 (Regular Cab)
The 2003 Chevy Silverado gets the job done - enough said. And, with a
multitude of different size, power, and seating configurations, it gets
the job done in a number of different ways. As Chevrolet's premier full-size
pickup, it isn't surprising that the 2003 Chevy Silverado combines ruggedness
with comfort and safety with style. Manufacturers certainly don't rest
on their laurels however, as the 2003 Chevy Silverado steps in with more
than 40 new features and enhancements, resulting in yet a new height for
the rest of the automotive world to aspire to reach.
Available Models
The ½-ton 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 regular cab configuration is
offered with either a 6.5-ft. flare-fender Sportside Box, a 6.5-ft. Fleetside
Short Box, or an 8.1-ft. Fleetside Long Box. All 1500s come with 2WD or
4WD configurations, in either base or uplevel LS models.
Interior Features
Front buckets seats can replace the standard bench seat, but that decreases
the seating capacity from three to two. As just part of the numerous enhancements
for 2003, the interior of the 2003 Chevy Silverado is given a healthy
upgrade. Redesigned seats and center console enhance Silverado's interior
look, while Dark Charcoal Gray is a new color never seen inside a Silverado
before.
Base models are equipped with air conditioning with dual-zone manual
climate control, power steering, tilt steering wheel, vinyl upholstery,
AM/FM radio, engine-hour meter, trip computer and a functional cargo-box
light. LS models throw in cruise control, AM/FM CD player, carpeting,
outside-temperature indicator, compass, overhead console, power windows
and door locks and remote keyless entry. And of course, options are available.
Exterior Features
The 2003 Chevy Silverado's front-end has been completely worked over.
The front grille is smoothly integrated into the front end and the bumper
has bigger fog lamps. In addition, there are new body-side moldings that
add more protection and restyled taillamps for the rear. Two new exterior
colors - Dark Gray Metallic and Arrival Blue - are also available.
Performance
There is no denying the Silverado's performance - it is perhaps the founding
feature of this full-size pickup. The standard engine on 1500 regular
cabs is a 4.3-liter V6 with 200 horsepower. 5-speed manual transmission
comes standard, while 4-speed automatic transmission is optional. An Autotrac
electric shift, part-time 4WD transfer case gets improved fuel economy
when operating in 2WD, as well as improved customer feel when in the "Auto"
mode during parking lot and other low-speed maneuvers.
For people who want more power, there are engine upgrades available.
On all 1500 regular cabs, the standard engine can be replaced with one
of two engines: a 4.8-liter V8 with 270 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 285
lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm or a 5.3-liter V8 with 300 horsepower at 4400
rpm and 360lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm (4-speed automatic only).
Safety and Security
The 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 regular cab is equipped with standard antilock
4-wheel disc brakes, dual front airbags and daytime running lights.
