Visit Land Rover for more information on the Land Rover Freelander.

The 2003 Land Rover Freelander is the smallest SUV in the Land Rover stable. A compact SUV in the same class as the Mazda Tribute and the Honda CRV, the 2003 Land Rover Freelander has a lot to offer in that it may be a more viable option for those who have admired the larger Land Rovers but didn't need the large-size vehicle in their mostly urban lives.

2003 sees the arrival of the smallest Land Rover yet, the 2-door Freelander SE3, named for its two doors and hatch. This open-air wagon can have panels removed from above the front seats and beside the back seats for a convertible, open top experience.

Available Models
The 2003 Land Rover Freelander comes in rising trim-levels from the S, through the SE and top-level HSE grade. The SE3 2-door has its own specific trim level, which includes a sport and adventure oriented selection of interior amenity.

Interior Features
The 2003 Land Rover Freelander S has good standard features including cruise control, air conditioning, driver seat with lumbar adjustment, as well as an assortment of other copmfort features. However, this being a Land Rover, there are a number of utility-oriented details as well. For example, a heated windshield, heated power mirrors, a split folding rear seat and a tachometer are all in place as standard equipment.

The SE adds leather upholstery amongst other items while the top-level HSE grade has all that plus sophisticated electronics; specifically, Harmon Kardon audio and DVD navigation. The SE3 lies somewhere in between without the leather or the navigation but with the Harmon Kardon audio.

Exterior Features
Naturally, as a Land Rover, the Freelander has some classic exterior styling. Resonant of the iconic Range Rover, yet setting its own path, the Freelander has attractive, rugged lines with large headlights and six-spoke alloy wheels. The Freelander SE3 has standard 17-inch, three-spoke alloy wheels fitted with 225/55R17 while a front A-frame brush bar adds to for and function. Roof rails and side body moldings enhance the durable utility of this sporty adventure vehicle.

The 2003 Land Rover Freelander has a 2.5-liter dohc V6 engine with permanent all-wheel drive and Land Rovers innovative CommandShift five-speed automatic transmission. Capable of 17/21 mpg despite punching out 174 hp at 6250 rpm and 177lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, the Freelander has a clean and efficient clean burning engine.

Four-wheel electronic traction control 4ECT technology is just a small part of the handling innovation that also includes Hill-Descent Control (HDC) and all-terrain ABS.

Safety and Security
Extensive safety equipment throughout the Land Rover line are present in full measure on all versions of the Freelander. In addition to the active safety technology mentioned above, the Freelander also has state of the art passive systems.

Passive safety technology includes dual front airbags, and state of the art three-point belts with pretensioners in all outboard positions and the child seat restraint LATCH system.
