2004 Toyota Celica

The Toyota family is comprised of small cars, midsize cars, SUVs in a variety of styles and sizes and a few pickup trucks. Only one position is saved for a model that fits into the sporty coupe segment. That spot is reserved for the Celica.

Superb handling, peppy performance and an aggressive style all mark models in the sporty coupe segment. A more fitting description of the 2004 Toyota Celica would have been difficult to conjure up.

There aren't many changes to this year's Celica, but in no way does that mean that it's lost its cool.

Available Models
The 2004 Toyota Celica is offered in GT and GT-S models. The GT also comes with an Action Package, which essentially pushes the trim level up to three.

Interior Features
Though the 2004 Toyota Celica is intended to be driver's cars first and foremost, they have a surprising amount of trunk space. The two-door, four-seater provides up to 16.9 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The entry-level 2004 Toyota Celica GT model are equipped with such things as air conditioning, a center console, power mirrors, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a digital clock and a rear defogger. Nothing crazy, but comfortable nonetheless.

The Toyota Celica GT-S model adds more power under the hood and appointments inside the cabin. They include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, power windows and door locks and a JBL sound system.

Exterior Features
The 2004 Toyota Celica GT-S model also has standard alloy wheels, which are optional with the GT. However, GT models with the Action Plan get bodyside cladding and an adjustable rear spoiler. New this year are available high-intensity discharge headlamps.

Performance
GT models use a 1.8-liter dual-overhead-cam inline 4-cylinder engine. It is able to churn out 140 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 125 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm. Again, like its interior appointments, not bad. However, if you want real jump, move on up to the GT-S.
Top-line GT-S trims receive a similar 1.8-liter I4 engine. It dishes out a rumbling 180 horsepower at 7600 rpm and 130 lb-ft of torque at 6800 rpm. This is the model that you probably think of when you hear the Celica name.

The 2004 Toyota Celica GT model comes with standard 5-speed manual transmission; the GT-S with 6-speed manual. Automatic transmission is available for both Celicas and provides the GT-S with steering-wheel buttons for manual shifting.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and daytime running lights are part of the standard package. Antilock brakes and front side airbags are optional.
