2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible
What is more evocative of the American car driving experience than hot-rodding
down the strip like a character from American Graffiti? Maybe a convertible
along Highway 1 on the west coast with a surfboard jammed in the back?
Maybe the 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible is the car for you, as it has both
those possibilities and many others to choose from. This year the PT Cruiser
has something to offer more consumers than ever before because it has
seen significant cut in price, mostly due to a shake-up in the standard
features and trim levels.
However, though fewer features are offered as standards, they are all
available as optional extras so consumers can buy and tailor their own
PT according to their likes and dislikes and not have to pay for unwanted
extras.
Truly, the PT Cruiser is a car that can be styled to order, pick an engine,
one of three, pick a trim level, one of the three convertible types available
and hit the strip.
Available Models
The 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible is offered in four models: Base,
Touring and GT. Unlike the PT Cruiser Wagons, the Convertibles start with
a plusher "base" model, move to a luxurious Touring model and
then, to a touring car with a definite sporty edge, the GT. 0-60 in about
7 seconds worth of sporty.
Interior Features
The PT Cruisers seat five and features a split-folding rear seat for the
surfboard. Base Convertibles come with A/C, power everything, including
the power soft-top, remote keyless entry and a basic Audio system. Upgrade
to Touring class for cruise control and CD audio system, or go straight
for the GT. This comes equipped with leather upholstery, driver-seat power
height adjuster, leather-wrapped steering and a universal garage-door
opener.
Then you have the options and options packages. Take your base model
and add leather upholstery or a sunroof, or a better stereo. Another option
is a hands-free communication system. It uses controls on the electrochromic
rearview mirror to provide hands-free, in-vehicle communication. Integrated
into the PT Cruiser's electrical architecture, the audio is heard through
radio speakers, with the customer's own cellular phone conveniently placed
anywhere in the vehicle.
Exterior Features
Of course you already have the PT Cruiser's distinct retro styling, but
add the GT trim and you get some great exterior additions; 17-inch tires
on chrome alloy wheels, fog lights and a low slung sport suspension.
Performance
With the new optional engine, there are now three to choose from with
the Chrysler PT Cruiser. The first, standard on Base and Touring models,
is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder with 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 162
lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. A 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmission
are both offered.
The new optional engine is available with Touring and Limited Edition
models. It is a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4 with 180 horsepower at 5200
rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm.
Top-line GT models employ another 2.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder
engine. It delivers 220 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 245 lb-ft of torque
at 2800 rpm.
Safety and Security
A rear seat trapped occupant release, rear door child protection locks
and the LATCH child seat anchorage system are standard on all PT Cruiser
models, as are driver and passenger front airbags. Add the GT trim level
for antilock brakes and front side airbags or get a lower trim level and
add those features as stand-alone extras
