2005 Honda Pilot

The Pilot is Honda's midsize sport utility vehicle meant for busy families that like a little adventure in their lives. Being a Honda, it is well put together. It isn't especially flashy, but it does have numerous comfort features and practical accessories.

This year, the 2005 Honda Pilot gets even more features, plus more horsepower from its engine. In addition, the powertrain uses a new Drive by Wire (DBW) Throttle System for better responsiveness and fuel efficiency.

Available Models
The 2005 Honda Pilot is offered in three models: LX, EX and EX-L.

Interior Features
The Honda Pilot is a big, roomy SUV with three rows of seating for up to eight passengers. You can easily carry around plenty of goods with 60/40 split folding bench seats for the second and third rows. The total cargo volume is tallied at 90.3 cubic feet.

Interior upgrades mark the 2005 entry. Included are a revised instrument panel with added ambient lighting, the addition of a driver footrest, a new integrated remote key fob and a new magnesium frame steering wheel.

For families that like adventure, but also want to ride in class, there's the top-line EX-L trim. It has leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climate controls, an 8-way power driver seat, an AM/FM/cassette player with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and steering-wheel radio controls. EX-L models can be had with a navigation system or a DVD entertainment system.

Exterior Features
The 2005 Honda Pilot has a one-piece liftgate with fixed glass. The EX-L also comes with a standard power sunroof.

Performance
The revised engine under the hood of the 2005 Honda Pilot is a 3.5-liter, SOHC, 24-valve, 60-degree, V6 engine with an aluminum-block-and-head design that is compact, light and powerful. The new power ratings for 2005 are as follows: 255 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm.

5-speed automatic is the sole transmission available. All Pilot trim levels receive revised 4th and 5th gear ratios providing a smoother transition between gears, along with a new fuel tank design, increasing the Pilot's driving range by over 40 miles.

The 2005 Honda Pilot achieves the highest combined fuel economy in its class while meeting Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV-2) standards.
Furthermore, all Pilot models use a VTM-4 full-time four-wheel drive system. With it, there's a dashboard button for locking-in an even front/rear power split.

Safety and Security
Standard features for all 2005 Honda Pilots include dual front airbags, front side airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and a tire-pressure monitor. EX-L models also have an antiskid system.
