2002 Lexus RX 300
Back in 1998, Lexus introduced us to the concept of a high-class luxury
mid-size sport utility vehicle with the unveiling of the RX 300. Not only
does this smart vehicle look sturdy yet refined, it packs versatile performance
and engulfs its passengers in a sea of comforts and conveniences.
Available Models
One model is on the market for 2002, but it is offered in a
front-wheel drive model and a four-wheel drive model. Both vehicles certainly
fit the bill in every category. In fact, each is so complete that you'll
be hard-pressed to point out anything that it could possibly be missing.
Interior Features
The spacious and accommodating interior welcomes five comfortable
passengers to enjoy automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver's
seat, four-way power passenger's seat, and a 240-watt seven-speaker audio
system with cassette player. Other standards include cruise control, first
aid kit, front map lights and cargo area light, power door locks, power
windows, rear vents for air conditioning and heat, tool kit, and a tilt-adjustable
steering wheel.
The interior is finished off in style with rear walnut trim and a leather-wrapped
steering wheel, and options such as genuine leather upholstery, six-disc
CD changer, chrome door handles, Lexus logo scuff plates, wood steering
wheel and shift knob, and two-level seat heaters to keep you toasty warm.
Exterior Features
Each Lexus RX 300 SUV features green-tinted UV-filter glass,
sixteen-inch aluminum alloy wheels, rear privcy glass, mud and snow-rated
tires, and heated dual power outside mirrors for optimum visibility in
inclement weather. A one-touch power moonroof comes as an optional feature.
Performance
Under the hood of the RX 300 rumbles a 3.0-litre, DOHC, six-cylinder
engine with variable valve timing, producing 220 horsepower and 222 lb-ft
of torque. The front-wheel drive model barrels from 0-60 in 8.5 seconds,
while the four-wheel drive version registers at 8.8 seconds. The fuel
economy rating checks in at 19/23 mpg (city/hwy) for the front-wheel drive,
and 18/22 mpg (city/hwy) for the four-wheel drive model.
The standard transmission on both RX 300 SUV models is a responsive electronically-controlled
four-speed automatic. In the four-wheel drive version, the system provides
an equal front-to-rear splity and directs power to the wheels with the
most traction when slippage occurs.
Safety and Security
With the safety of its passengers at the forefront, the Lexus
RX 300 SUV is equipped with front and rear crumple zones, ABS, skid control,
brake assist, passenger air bag, driver air bag, side impact air bags,
three-point seatbelts and head restraints at all seating positions, and
front fog lights. Other standard fare includes child safety locks, child
seat tethers and anchors, daytime running lights, and a four-link wiper
that clears 89 percent of the windshield.
