2003 Hyundai Tiburon

The new 2003 Hyundai Tiburon causes people to reconsider their misconceptions about Hyundai. Sleek, stylish and powerful, it performs at a level that few would expect from the normally value-driven Korean manufacturer. And though it doesn't shed its reasonable price tag, it does up the intensity to previously unseen levels.

The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon rolls off the production line with a bunch of upgrades. Hyundai has almost fully redesigned this sporty hatchback coupe, giving it larger dimensions, new styling, and a V6 engine. Tiburon's wheelbase and overall length also grow slightly against the previous version, and curb weight increases about 200 lbs.

Available Models
The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon is offered in two models: Base and GT V6.

Interior Features
The two-door 2003 Hyundai Tiburon hatchback seats four people. For its price, the Tiburon provides plenty of standard interior features to make even long rides pleasurable. Air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console, cupholders, power mirrors, windows and door locks, an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a rear defogger and more are all found with the entry-level Base trim.

With the uplevel GT V6 model, increased power is matched with upgraded comfort levels. Leather upholstery and a leather wrapped steering wheel give the Tiburon a refined look, while an Infinity AM/FM/cassette CD player turns the decibel level up a few notches.

Exterior Features
The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon is the sleekest of the Hyundai lot, reinforcing its sporty image. With a dual exhaust system and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, its intentions are obvious. GT V6 models add a rear spoiler to the mix.

Performance
Two hard-working engines power the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon lineup. Base models feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder motor with 134 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 133 lb-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. Like its name suggests, the GT V6 is equipped with a 2.7-liter V6 engine. It produces 170 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 177 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm.

With the Base model, both 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission are offered. With the GT model, an additional 6-speed manual transmission option is made available for increased shifting pleasure.

Safety and Security
The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon has steel-reinforced roof rails and side impact beams, plus impact-absorbing front and rear crumple zones for occupant protection. Dual front airbags, front side airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes are also standard.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon Highlights

The 2003 Tiburon, styled in Korea, features both straight lines and curved lines to emphasize vitality and strength. Large, low profile high-performance tires on alloy wheels fill the wheelwells, and give the Tiburon an aggressive stance, while both the windshield angle and the backlight angle are steeply raked. Those features, combined with the vehicle’s high beltline and “chopped” greenhouse, make the new Tiburon look fast even when it’s parked
For the first time, a powerful, high-tech V6 engine is available in the Tiburon. It’s the same strong, smooth all-aluminum DOHC 2.7-liter V6 used in the Hyundai Sonata and the hot-selling Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle.
The previous version of the Tiburon was built on the same platform as the Elantra, but the all-new Tiburon has its own chassis, dubbed the GK.
The new platform features a slightly longer wheelbase (99.6-in. vs. 97.4-in.) and is slightly longer (173-in. vs. 170.9-in) than the previous version. As a result there is more room inside for the driver and passengers -- and the extra room provides extra comfort. Headroom, legroom and shoulder room have all been increased to make the new Tiburon even more comfortable.
The Tiburon carries a full complement of safety features, starting with the car’s strong unibody construction, integrated crumple zones, high-strength steel side impact beams and front and rear five-mile per hour energy absorbing bumpers. Driver and passenger front and side impact airbags are standard.
