2003 Mazda Protege5
The 2003 Mazda Protege5 is a station wagon that combines a sporty look
and feel with good fuel economy, and exterior and interior trimmings.
Developed from the winning formula that has helped its cousin the Protegé
sedan move consistently up the sales rankings in 2001 and 2002, it shares
many of the Protégé's attributes. It also incorporates extras
intended to appeal to versatile consumers.
Available Models
The 2003 Mazda Protege5 comes with many attractive standard features.
It is a 4-door wagon, with option packages that offer the consumer the
latest in safety, comfort, convenience, and appearance.
Interior Features
The 2003 Mazda Protege5 comes with attractive cabin decor. It offers all
the interior features that are standard in the Protege sedan. These include
a tilt steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a split folding rear seat, AM/FM/CD
player, digital clock, intermittent wipers, front bucket seats, map lights,
and remote fuel-door/decklid release. It is also provided with features
that are standard in the LX and ES models, namely air conditioning, cruise
control, power locks, windows, and mirrors, a tachometer, remote entry
system, and a height-adjustable driver seat, which adds to the already
good inside visibility. The 2003 Mazda Protege5 will also have a leather-wrapped
steering wheel and silver gauge faces, and its superior sound system will
come with six speakers.
Like the Protege sedan, the 2003 Mazda Protege5 offers ample leg room
and head space. Its rear seat is easily accessible and relatively roomy,
and is a locking 60/40 folding seat that allows for extra cargo room.
Also standard in the Protege5 is a rigid cargo cover.
Exterior Features
Like the ES model of the Protege sedan, the 2003 Mazda Protege5 has alloy
wheels as a standard feature, and high performance tires. Another useful
standard feature is the roof rack.
Performance
The 2003 Mazda Protege5 is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder 16-valve
engine. As with its sedan equivalents, this allows it to offer 130 hp
at 6000 rpm and 135 lbs-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. For this wagon, 5-speed
manual transmission is standard, with automatic 4-speed transmission an
option. This automatic transmission is available with the Sport AT system,
which allows the driver to shift manually if desired.
Safety and Security
Safety and security features in the Protégé 5 include dual
front airbags and an emergency trunk release. Options allow the consumer
to include a theft deterrent system with an alarm, as well as front-side
airbags and anti-lock brakes. Like the Protege's ES model, the Mazda Protege5
is provided with 4-wheel disc brakes and fog lights as standard features.
