Visit Mazda for more information on the Mazda6.

The 2004 Mazda6 is a compact sports sedan that is about to be joined by a few siblings. Later in 2004, Mazda plans on unveiling two new Mazda6 models: a wagon and a four-door hatchback. They will undoubtedly broaden the appeal of this well-mannered vehicle.

In the compact class, there are models that truly fit the designation and those that really could be in the midsize class. Due to its power, the Mazda is of the latter group. It will pleasantly surprise you with what's under the hood.

In 2003, the Mazda6 was introduced. Not surprisingly, 2004 doesn't see major changes just yet, save for the new body styles.

Available Models
The 2004 Mazda6 is offered in two models: i and s.

Interior Features
For a compact, the 2004 Mazda6 is quite roomy. But then again, it is sort of like a midsize sedan. The four-door Mazda 6 seats five and offers 15.2 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The distinction between the two Mazda6 models deals mainly with performance. On the inside, both have such standard features as air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cloth upholstery and power mirrors, windows and door locks.

There are plenty of available options to increase the ride comfort. One of note is the Luxury Package, which lives up to its name by offering leather upholstery, an 8-way power driver seat and heated power mirrors and front seats.

Exterior Features
The 2004 Mazda6 is fairly sleek, but mostly modest. However, an optional Sport Package will change that. It adds body cladding, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets and fog lights.

Performance
The front-wheel drive Mazda has a good amount of power-especially with the uplevel s model. This strength is one of the primary features that allows it to excel in its class.

Base i models use a 2.3-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It offers 160 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 155 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions are available.

The s model certainly makes the 2004 Mazda6 a formidable sedan. It provides a 3.0-liter V6 engine that will generate 220 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 192 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. To this engine is mated either 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

Safety and Security
The Mazda6 s model has standard traction control and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, which are both optional with the i. The s can also be purchased with front side airbags and curtain side airbags.
