2004 Pontiac Bonneville
Pontiac likes to point out that the Bonneville has been satisfying customers
since the 1950s. It is quite a claim, but if you've been around for that
long, you know you're doing something right. The big sedan has certainly
seen its share of ups and downs, and has come through it all unscathed.
For 2004, there are a few new interior refinements in the Bonneville.
However, the real news is the introduction of the top-line GXP model.
It uses V8 power to live up to the Pontiac driving excitement billing,
and it has a decidedly refined interior setting.
Available Models
The 2004 Pontiac Bonneville is offered in three model trims: SE, SLE and
GXP.
Interior Features
The four-door 2004 Pontiac Bonneville is the largest sedan offered by
Pontiac. It can seat six passengers when fully loaded, and provides 18
cubic feet of cargo volume. Up front, the maximum legroom is a cavernous
42.6 inches.
A CD player and Monsoon eight-speaker sound system is just one of the
many standard features found in the new GXP model. Others include leather
upholstery, memory seats and dual-zone climate control. In addition, the
shifter handle is brushed aluminum, a carbon-fiber trim is abundant and
the interior switches are a rich ebony.
XM Satellite Radio and a power sunroof are optional for 2004.
Exterior Features
The performance-tuned GXP model doesn't hide itself on the road; it proudly
displays what it has. Dual exhausts let out a noticeable rumble when the
engine fires, while 18-inch V-rated performance tires on styled aluminum
wheels add superior grip at the corners.
The GXP further distinguishes itself with a refined styling that includes
new fascias, headlamps, taillamps and a spoiler.
Performance
SE and SLE models are fitted with a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 205 horsepower
at 5200 rpm and 230 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The 2004 Pontiac Bonneville's
4-speed automatic transmission shifts quietly and quickly, without jarring
or bumping.
Under the hood of the new GXP is a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine with
275 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
GXP's performance-tuned handling package includes a four-wheel independent
suspension, the StabiliTrak electronic stability system and an electronically
controlled transaxle with a 3.71 final drive gear.
Safety and Security
The well-equipped 2004 Pontiac Bonneville addresses safety and security
with a number of features. All models have dual front airbags, a theft-deterrent
system with alarm, a tire-pressure monitor and daytime running lights.
