Visit Ford for more information on the Ford Explorer Freestar.

Replacing the outdated Windstar is the new 2004 Ford Freestar, a minivan for the next generation. At least that's how Ford puts it. The title seems justified however, as the Freestar offers a host of segment-first features that clearly distinguish it from the pack.

It took a while to modernize Ford's minivan, but now it's here and ready to satisfy. As Ford spins it, the 2004 Ford Freestar features major improvements in safety innovation, interior design, flexible fold-flat third row seating, steering, ride and performance.

Available Models
The 2004 Ford Freestar is offered in S, SE, SES, SEL and Limited models.

Interior Features
The 2004 Ford Freestar comes in a single body length that's similar in size to many of its competitors. Each and every Freestar model has two second-row bucket seats for seven-passenger capacity.

The Ford Freestar's third-row bench folds into the floor, which is a first for a Ford minivan. In addition, the third-row bench also flips around for rear-facing tailgate seating under the open liftgate. This feature is perfect for picnicking or tailgating.

At the top of the model lineup is the Limited trim. It features such things as leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals, heated power mirrors with turn signals and power sliding rear doors. For all trims except the base S, a rear seat DVD entertainment system is available.

Exterior Features
Ford Freestar S and SE models have monochromatic, body-color fascias and a body-color grille. The SES features a black grille, black lower bumper sections and body-side trim, five-spoke, 16-inch aluminum wheels and fog lamps. On Freestar SEL and Limited models, the grille is chromed and the bumper fascias and cladding have chrome trim strips.

Performance
Two engines power the front-wheel drive 2004 Ford Freestar. The first, standard with S, SE and SES models, is a 3.9-liter V6. It revs out 193 horsepower at 4750 rpm and 248 lb-ft of torque at 3700 rpm.

SEL and Limited models feature the most torque in the minivan segment. Their engine is a 4.2-liter V6. It puts out 202 horsepower at 4250 rpm and an exceptional 267 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm.

Ford's latest 4-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines. Using an upgraded hydraulic design, the 4-speed system is made to help the transmission shift more quickly and smoothly.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and a tire-pressure monitor are standard. For added safety, front side airbags and curtain side airbags are optional.
