Visit Ford for more information on the Ford Thunderbird.

For open-air driving, few models can top the 2004 Ford Thunderbird. The classic convertible was around as far back as 1955, when some say the golden age of the American automobile was just beginning to dawn.

That heritage continues to be displayed with each new year. The roadster has perennial style, loads of power and all sorts of interior roominess. These three things (plus a few others, of course), define the Thunderbird today just as much as it did back in the day.

The 2004 Thunderbird is offered in new colors, with a new interior package also available. New wheels, seats and equipment round out the list of improvements.

Available Models
The 2004 Ford Thunderbird is offered in two models: Deluxe and Premium.

Interior Features
The only unfortunate thing about the Thunderbird's design is that only two people get to experience it from the inside. The rest have to admire from afar.

The standard comfort features come in bunches with the Thunderbird. Both models have air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a power tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, newly styled leather upholstery and an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer. Premium models add heated seats.

For 2004, there's a Light Sand Appearance Package to be had. It includes a special trim prominently displaying the color, plus cream-colored gauges.

Exterior Features
The two-door 2004 Ford Thunderbird is available with a power-folding soft top with a heated glass rear window or with a removable hardtop with trademark porthole windows.

Under the hood of the Ford Thunderbird is just the right amount of power to get your spine tingling. The engine is an aluminum 3.9-liter V8. It gives the rear-wheel drive convertible 280 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 286 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

Built for high-speed performance, the engine features a coil-on-plug ignition with platinum-tipped spark plugs, low-friction pistons and dual exhausts.

5-speed automatic transmission is standard. However, the 2004 Thunderbird can also be fitted with Ford's SelectShift feature, which blends manual shifting with a traditional automatic system. This setup features a one-piece die-cast aluminum case for reduced weight.

Safety and Security
The 2004 Ford Thunderbird comes with driver and passenger front and side airbags-the first Ford convertible to come equipped with combination head-and-chest side airbags. Other safety and security features include an anti-theft system, Ford's Smart Locks system, the LATCH child seat system, a perimeter alarm with an LED indicator and a glow-in-the-dark emergency trunk release handle.
