2005 Pontiac Sunfire
The smallest vehicle in the Pontiac family is a peppy subcompact that
zips around town and smoothly carries on over highways. It isn't the roomiest
vehicle in the world, being a subcompact, but it does come in at a nice
price, and it is built well. For these and other reasons, the Sunfire
is a favorite car for college students and others on a tight budget.
The Sunfire comes as a two-door coupe, and it shares an underskin design
with Chevrolet's Cavalier sedans. But though Cavalier will be replaced
during the 2005 model year by new Cobalt coupes and sedans, the Pontiac
Sunfire is not slated to get a version of the Cobalt.
Available Models
The 2005 Pontiac Sunfire is offered as a base model and as a 1SV model.
However, there are also 1SB and 1SC groups.
Interior Features
The two-door Sunfire seats five passengers, but it would help if they
are small. The Sunfire also has a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, giving
owners increased cargo-carrying flexibility.
As mentioned, the Sunfire is a young person's car. Returning for 2005
as part of the Sun and Sound Package is a CD/MP3 player with equalizer
and Radio Data System.
Top-level audio quality is also available with the 200-watt, eight-speaker
Monsoon Premium Package audio system. It has been tailored specifically
to Sunfire's acoustical environment.
Exterior Features
The only change applied to the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire is a newly available
Sport Appearance Package. It includes 16-inch Chrome Tech wheels with
bright chrome finish, 205/55R16 performance blackwall tires, sport suspension,
a Sport interior package (leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake
handle and shift knob, driver lumbar with manual adjust and passenger
seatback pocket), dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips, body-color door
handles and custom sill plates.
Also new for 2005 are four fresh exterior color choices: Sedona Beige
Metallic, Steel Blue Metallic, Sport Red Metallic and Liquid Silver Metallic.
Performance
All models use a 2.2-liter Ecotec inline 4-cylinder engine with 140 horsepower
at 5600 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Thanks to twin balance
shafts located in the cylinder block, the engine drives very quietly.
5-speed Getrag manual transmission is standard on the base model, while
a Hydra-Matic 4T45-E electronically controlled 4-speed automatic is standard
on the other models.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags are standard, while seat-mounted side airbags for front-seat
passengers are optional. An available Protection Package features side
airbags and the OnStar communications and security service.
