2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

The Cavalier will soon be departing to make way for the all-new Chevy Cobalt, a car that the manufacturer hopes will take off where the Cavalier left off. That is, it needs to be as dependable, comfortable and durable as the Cavalier ever was. It will be a tough act to follow, for sure, but Chevy has never shied away from a challenge.

Not surprisingly, there aren't any changes to this year's 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. It continues on with its blend of power, performance and comfort, all wrapped under a reasonable price.

Available Models
The 2005 lineup includes a four-door sedan and a stylish two-door coupe. Coupes are available in four trims: base, 1SV, LS and LS Sport. Sedans are offered in all but the 1SV trim.

Interior Features
Both the coupe and the sedan offer seating for up to five passengers. In addition, they both have roughly the same interior cargo volume, which averages out to slightly more than 13 cubic feet.

Entry-level models are equipped with air conditioning, power steering, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console, a split folding rear seat with trunk pass-through and an AM/FM radio. Top-line LS and LS Sport models add a CD player, cruise control, power mirrors, windows and door locks and remote keyless entry.

Options for 2005 include the OnStar system, XM Satellite Radio and an AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with premium speakers.

Exterior Features
LS Sport models stand out with a rear spoiler, fog lights, 205/55R16 tires and chrome alloy wheels. These can all be added to the other trims.

Performance
Not all Cavaliers are created equal. Cavalier's appearance on the National Hot Rod Association racing circuit has generated enormous interest in the vehicle, as fans enjoy the excitement of a 1,000-horsepower Cavalier rocketing down the quarter-mile at 180 mph.

However, the street-legal 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier has a much more modest power dosage. 2005 models are fitted with an Ecotec 2.2-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It is mated to a standard 5-speed manual or the optional Hydra-Matic 4T40-E 4-speed automatic transmission, and it generates 140 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

Safety and Security
Antilock brakes are standard with both LS models-optional with the others. The LATCH child seat system is standard across the line.

In addition to frontal-impact front airbags and three-point front seat belts, the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier provides standard three-point seat belts for all rear-seat occupants, plus optional front driver and passenger seat-mounted torso airbags with thorax protection (side impact airbags).
