Available Models
The 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis is offered in two models - the
GS and LS series. The LS Series comes in LS Premium, LSE, and LS Ultimate
packages. These choices provide you with a broad spectrum of standard
and optional features to adapt to your lifestyle and driving needs.
Interior Features
New this year is standard steering wheel-mounted audio and
climate controls on LS Ultimate and LSE versions. LS Premium, Ultimate,
and LSE new feature standard genuine leather upholstery, optional on the
GS Convenience model. An 8-way power driver's seat and passenger's seat
with power lumbar adjustment is a basic on all Grand Marquis models.
The seating capacity of the Grand Marquis GS, GS convenience, LS Premium
and LS Ultimate is a convenient six passengers, while the LSE holds five
and has leather-trimmed front bucket seats. A center console is equipped
with storage bin, padded armrest, two cupholders, and center stack mini-bin
with cigar lighter. Power pedals are standard on all but the GS model.
Trunk space is more than ample, bearing the most cargo space in its class
at 20.6 cubic feet and featuring a low liftover height. A cargo organizer
is an option with all Grand Marquis models. New for 2002, there is no
charge for leather upholstery on the LS Premium, LSE, and LS Ultimate.
Exterior Features
The Grand Marquis is now equipped with dual power outside mirrors
that fold away, and several bold new colors have been made available.
Its unique appearance is characterized by a bright, vertical-rail chrome
grille, jeweled headlights, and integrated parking lights and cornering
lights.
Performance
Under the hood, the Mercury Grand Marquis GS, GS Convenience,
LS Premium and LS Ultimate pack a 4.6-litre, SOHC V8 engine that cruises
along with 220 horsepower and 265 lbs-ft of torque. The Grand Marquis
adds a dual-exhaust system to the mix and headlines sixteen-inch lacy-spoke
aluminum alloy wheels, unique tires, larger rear anti-sway bar, special
shock and spring rates, and rear load-leveling air suspension.
The standard transmission on all Grand Marquis models is an electronic
four-speed automatic with overdrive. A smooth ride is provided courtesy
of the front suspension - a short- and long-arm design with coil springs
and a stabilizer, and rear suspension four-bar link design with coil springs.
Safety and Security
The Mercury Grand Marquis is equipped with standard safety
features such as child safety locks, child seat tethers and anchors, ABS
brakes, traction control, driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered
air bag, side impact door beams, and both front and rear crumple zones.
The Grand Marquis has received a double five-star government crash test
rating.
