The 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon opens up the competition with
three practical models - Sable GS Wagon, Sable GS Plus Wagon, and LS Premium
Wagon.
Interior Features
The four-door Sable Wagon boasts several new features for 2002,
including a LED rear center high mounted stop light, auto-dimming rear
view mirror with compass (available as an option of the GS Plus and LS
Premium), and security approach lighting on all models. The LS Premium
has the option of opulent leather seating, and a host of new modern paint
colors has been released to spiff things up as well.
The inviting and spacious interior is available in both a five-passenger
and six-passenger configurations. The five-passenger model features a
floor-mounted shifter and front center console, while the six-passenger
vehicles sport a flip-fold center seat that also doubles as a convenient
center console with storage when not in use for a passenger.
The back seat splits 60/40 and folds down to accommodate extra cargo,
and there is a full 16.0 cubic feet of luggage volume in the trunk.
Exterior Features
The Mercury Sable Wagon features a rear liftgate that makes
the loading and unloading of luggage, groceries, and other cargo simple.
Each vehicle is finished with bright jeweled headlights and taillights,
plus standard sixteen-inch alloy wheels. The LS Premium boasts seven-spoke
alloy wheels. The dual power outside mirrors on all models features security
approach lighting.
Performance
Starting off with the Mercury Sable GS Wagon, it carries a
3.0-litre, OHV, 12-valve Vulcan V6 engine that produces 155 horsepower
and 185 lbs-ft of torque. The Sable LS Wagon cruises along with a 3.0-litre,
24-valve, Duratec V6 engine with 200 horsepower and 200 lbs-ft of torque.
The standard transmission on each of the front-wheel drive Sable Wagons
is a highly responsive four-speed automatic transmission. Overall, performance
is crisp and quiet.
Safety and Security
The 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon has scored a five-star crash test
rating for both driver and front passenger sides. Every vehicle is built
with a driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, three-point
seatbelts, head restraints, side impact door beams, and both front and
rear crumple zones. Other standard include child safety locks in the rear
seating area and child seat tethers and anchors.
Families will appreciate the child safety locks and child seat tethers
and anchors. Other standard safety features listed are a remote keyless
entry system, engine immobilizer, and accessory delay feature for up to
10 minutes of accessory use after the ignition is turned off. Finally,
