Visit Volkswagen for more information on the Volkswagen GTI.

The year is 1971. Wolfsburg, Germany. A team of Volkswagen engineers burn the midnight oil on a project known only by its code name: EA337. A real pocket-rocket, the GTI was finally inaugurated onto the U.S. automobile scene in 1983. It's the 25th European anniversary of the GTI, and to celebrate Volkswagen has produced a funkadelic model called the GTI 337, and decided to share it with us over here in North America. Only 1,750 editions are being shipped to American shores. Can you say hotcakes? As per usual, the 2003 Volklswagen GTI is available in two other standard configurations. Having fun yet? Read on…

Available Models
In addition to the limited edition 337, there are the other perennial favourites, 1.8T and VR6.

Interior Features
Settle in, put on your sunglasses, and prepare to be wowed…as appears to be the standard with Volkswagen. Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, tachometer, mirror control pad with joystick, chrome ornamentation, eight-speaker stereo system, pollen/odor/dust filter, and sport seats. Package upgrades can contribute to your fun with three package options to choose from. Luxury Packages include a power sunroof, and Monsoon sound system. Cold Weather packages include heatable front seats. While the Leather Package includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heatable leather-trimmed front seats.

Exterior Features
Standard exterior features on the 2003 Volkswagen GTI include a roof-mounted amplified whip antenna, halogen headlamps with clear chip-resistant polycarbonate lenses, fog lamps, and heated power mirrors. With the VR6, standard options also include rain sensing wipers and 17-inch alloy wheels. Upgrades can include 17-inch alloy wheels to the 1.8T, as well as heated windshield washer nozzles with the Cold Weather and Luxury Packages to the 1.8T or VR6.

Performance
Two engines are available on the 2003 Volkswagen GTI: the 1.8-litre 180 horsepower with 174 lb-ft torque, 4 cylinder, in-line, 5V, turbocharged gas engine, OR the 2.8-litre 200 horsepower, 195 lb-ft torque, 6 cylinder VR6, 15o V, gas engine. Unleaded fuel mileage is 24/31 (city/hwy) mpg on the 1.8T 5-speed manual transmission. There are two available transmissions: 5-speed automatic with optional Tiptronic or 5-speed manual.

Safety and Security
The 2003 Volkswagen GTI comes with an anti-theft vehicle alarm system for doors, hood, trunk lid, radio and starter, with warning LED in driver's door top sill and audible/visual de/activation verification. Volkswagen's Immobilizer theft deterrent system prevents the GTI from being started up if an unauthorized key is used. Also standard are anti-intrusion side-door beams, energy absorbing side impact door padding, and a restraint system including front and side impact airbags, as well as side curtain protection airbags that extend down the roofline to help minimize head and upper torso injury. Four-wheel ABS power assisted, vented front discs with solid rear discs give you braking security.

2003 Volkswagen GTI. Acceleration is an understatement.
