2003 Dodge Grand Caravan
The 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan is the extended length version of the regular
sized Caravan. With more than six inches added to its wheelbase and 10
inches to its overall length, the Grand Caravan has a noticeable amount
of extra roominess when compared to its smaller sibling.
However, both vehicles are extremely well rounded, so much so that they
can proudly claim the title of the best-selling minivan in America. Million
and millions of Americans have been satisfied year after year with the
ability, comfort and safety of this tandem, and 2003 should see no change
to this policy.
Available Models
The 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan is offered in five trim levels: SE, Sport,
eL, eX and ES. The regular length Caravan is covered in a separate review.
Interior Features
The 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan can seat seven people with ease. It has a
very impressive 167.9 cubic feet of total cargo volume. For 2003, the
Grand Caravan offers a host of minivan-first features, including a power
up and down liftgate, a powered centered console, a three-zone automatic
climate control temperature system, a pop-up rear cargo organizer, split
50/50 Easy Out roller rear seats and more. Not too shabby at all.
A power adjustable sunroof, a factory-installed DVD entertainment system
and power adjustable pedals are some of the other new interior features
you can have with the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. Additionally, there are
many add-ons that can be tapped into on the options list.
Exterior Features
The Dodge Grand Caravan has two sliding side doors for quick entry and
exiting. A power sliding door obstacle detection system is offered for
opening and closing.
Performance
Most 2003 Grand Caravans are front-wheel drive minivans, but Sport and
ES trims do offer the sure-footedness of all-wheel drive. A 2.4-liter
4-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 167 lb-ft. of torque
at 4000 rpm comes with the entry-level SE trim. FWD Sport and eL models
have a 3.3-liter V6 that pumps out 180 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 210
lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm (optional with SE models). Sport AWD, eX
and ES models feature a 3.8-liter V8 that delivers 215 horsepower at 5000
rpm and 245 lb-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm.
4-speed automatic transmission is mated to all three engines. It allows
the driver to keep both hands on the wheel and gets the Grand Caravan
up to speed quickly and smoothly.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags are standard. The Grand Caravan's front seat belt pretensioners
remove up to 3.9 inches of slack before airbags are deployed. Antilock
brakes ensure that the minivan won't slip as it stops.
