Visit Volvo for more information on the Volvo S80.

The top level Volvo sedan on the market today is the 2003 Volvo S80. A full-size luxury sedan, it has all the performance, luxury and safety equipment that Volvo can test and install. This is the flagship model for Volvo and it is as sedate and dignified as it is effortlessly fast; capable of 0-60 in 7 seconds. As the flagship, Volvo has put in all its most innovative and advanced performance and handling equipment but the cost is quite reasonable when compared against competitors with the same specifications and interior content.

Available Models
There are two versions of the S80, like the other Volvos, distinguished by their different engines and powertrains; the 2003 S80 2.9 and the 2003 S80 2.8T6 a turbo model. They both have V6 engines but the turbo is significantly more powerful than the second.

Interior Features
The S80 2.9 may be a base model but remember this is a base version of the luxury flagship. Most features are available on at this level. Aside from the engine differences, only two items are added at the T6 grade but they are big-ticket extras like a power sunroof and leather upholstery.

Other items and equipment packages are available for those who are unsatisfied with the luxury amenity set-up.

Exterior Features
The S80 has the grandeur and class of a traditional big sedan. Strong liners and bold styling cause the freshened look that has become so popular.

Performance
Unlike the other Volvos, the two engines in the S80 are not used in any other models of sedan. The 2.9-liter V6 on the S80 2.9 isn't even a turbo, unusual this year for Volvo. It nevertheless puts out a significant 194 hp at 5200 rpm and 207 lb-ft of torque at 4200. This can be teamed to ea 4-speed automatic transmission and it can get 19/27.
The S80 T6 has the distinction of being the fastest vehicle in the sedan stable, for Volvo. Most of the other vehicles have smaller 5-cylinder ones with less engine displacement. This has both more displacement and a turbo system, a double whammy for speed and acceleration. The T6 has 268 hp at 5400 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 1800. It too has a 5-speed automatic transmission and can reach 18/26 mpg.

Safety and Security
The S80 has dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, front-seat active head restraints. Other top-of-the-line Volvo technologies enhance family safety and overall value.

New for the 2003 Volvo S80 2.9, T-6 and T-6 Elite
Volvo On Call Plus telematics/mobile phone system installed as standard equipment on S80 T6. A 12-month subscription is included.
Leather steering wheel with Volvo ironmark symbol is now standard.
One new color, Ruby Red metallic (replaces Venetian Red).
A 2.9 variant without moonroof or leather is now available.
The S80 Elite replaces the 2002 S80 75th Anniversary Edition. Equipment and features are identical to the 75th Edition with the exception of the 75th Anniversary dash plaque and the addition of Volvo On Call Plus.

Premium Package
The 2003 2.9 Premium Package now includes moonroof in addition to leather.

Climate Package
The Cold Weather Package has been renamed the Climate Package. It now includes a new option known as Rainsensor. Rainsensor replaces the intermittent wiper control and automatically adjusts wiper speed based on the amount of water sensed on the windshield.
