Visit Chevrolet for more information on the Chevy Avalanche.

The model that basically invented the term "crossover" enters 2005 with more standard features, some interior adjustments to its trim packages, new colors and more. Of course, it remains extremely versatile, quite powerful and exceptionally rugged.

At the heart of the Chevy Avalanche is the revolutionary midgate system it employs. The Convert-a-Cab System and midgate provide unparalleled flexibility to quickly convert between a pickup and SUV. The 2005 Chevy Avalanche can seat up to six adults comfortably, while providing ample and secure storage with dual locking storage compartments on either side of the cargo box.

Available Models
The 2005 Chevy Avalanche lineup is broken down according to size. There is a ½-ton 1500 model and a larger ¾-ton 2500 model. Two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations for both sizes are available. In addition, there are four major equipment groups: LS, LT, Z66 and Z71.

Interior Features
The base package is the departing point on top of which customers can add one of the two interior options packages (LS and LT). On its own, the base setup includes air conditioning with dual-zone manual climate controls, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks and an AM/FM/CD player.

The decadent LT group offers leather upholstery, heated front seats, 8-way power front seats, driver-seat memory, power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone automatic climate controls, steering-wheel radio controls and more.

A new option among an already extensive array of stereo systems is an AM/FM radio and CD player with a touch-screen navigation radio feature.

Exterior Features
The Convert-a-Cab System increases the Avalanche's cargo bed from 5.3 ft to 8.1 ft. Two storage compartments (with drains) on either side of the cargo bed provide a combined 3.5 cubic feet of lockable storage space. A three-piece rigid cargo cover with interlocking panels is also available.

Performance
1500 models feature a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine capable of producing 295 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 330 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. 2500 models are brawnier; their engine is an 8.1-liter Vortec V8 with 320 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 440 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm.
2500s also come with heavy-duty suspension for more ruggedness. Both engines are mated to 4-speed electronic automatic transmission.
Owners of 2WD 1500 models can opt for the Z66 On-Road Package. This includes the StabiliTrak system, limited-slip differential and upgraded load-leveling rear suspension.

Safety and Security
The 2005 Chevy Avalanche gets a number of safety, security and convenience upgrades for 2005, including the addition of GM's OnStar safety and security system as standard equipment on all models. Other safety features on the Chevy Avalanche include dual front airbags, side airbags, daytime running lights and the LATCH system for child seats.
