2002 Ford Escape
With terrific performance and an interior brimming with comforts and
conveniences, the new 2002 Ford Escape is poised to present a serious
threat for a second year in a row amongst the fiercely competitive SUV
market. Luxury and sensibility are combined in an excellent overall package
that is as versatile as it is good-looking.
Available Models
In order to satisfy the varied needs of drivers, the 2002 Ford
Escape is offered up this year in two models - the 2002 Ford Escape XLS
and the Escape XLT. The XLT expands further on the impressive standard
amenities of the XLS, pushing luxury even further.
Interior Features
The 2002 Ford Escape offers its five passengers a spacious
and comfortable cabin. Among the key features are an instrument panel
that is easily and quickly read, tilt steering wheel, and an AM/FM stereo
with CD player. The Escape XLT headlines an in-dash six-disc CD player
for the ultimate in entertainment value.
The list of benefits also includes four-door entry with assist grips,
a convenient rear liftgate with flip glass, and 33 cubic feet of cargo
space with the seats in the upright position. The seats are upholstered
in cloth and vinyl, with the XLT upgraded to premium cloth. The rear seats
fold down to increase cargo space when required.
In the XLS, the floor console is comprised of five cup holders, open
storage bin and coin holders, while the XLT's console contains a storage
bin, cup holders, and rear pop-out cup holders. Other important details
include a lockable glove box, front door map pockets that are deep enough
to hold plenty of magazines and maps, and cargo area storage bins. The
audio and climate controls are centrally located.
Exterior
Features
Although the 2002 Ford Escape has a decidedly rugged look,
it has an air of sophistication that suits its refined qualities. It has
a wide stance that increases stability, and features wide body cladding
and integrated bumper guards. The doors are wider so as to facilitate
easy access by passengers.
The Escape XLT Sport Package comes with a No Boundaries Rack System,
sixteen-inch sport aluminum wheels, and handy side step bars.
Performance
In this department, the 2002 Ford Escape shines with great
fuel economy and a low emission rating. It is built with two-wheel front-wheel
drive yet delivers sound control and handling. For those of you with tougher
demands, four-wheel full-time drive with a choice of 4x4 Auto or 4x4 ON
available as an option. This lets the vehicle adapt the levels of torque
between the front and rear wheels for optimum handling under challenging
road conditions.
Rounding out the list of performance attributes are a MacPherson strut
front suspension and independent rear suspension for a smooth and peaceful
drive.
Safety and Security
The Ford Escape SUV is equipped with standard safety features
that include front and rear crumple zones, side impact door beams, and
energy-absorbing steering column. Other basics range from a driver depowered
air bag to a passenger depowered air bag, three-point seatbelts, child
safety locks, and child seat tethers and anchors. Each vehicle is also
equipped with the SecuriLock anti-theft system which immobilizes the engine
if you do not use the appropriate key to start the ignition.
