2003 Toyota Corolla
The 2003 Toyota Corolla is one of the most successful sedans in North
America. Since its inception it has been establishing a reputation for
Toyota for reliability, quality and performance without sacrificing value
or comfort. Good for young, old, and middle-aged people alike, the Corolla
is a winning combination.
Available Models
The 2003 Toyota Corolla comes CE, S and LE models. The rising trim levels
build on a high base level of standard interior amenities but the engine
and chassis remains consistent throughout the selection.
Interior Features
The 2003 Toyota Corolla Base CE has air conditioning, AM/FM/CD player,
cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, power mirrors and steering, split-folding
rear seat, variable intermittent wipers, rear defogger, remote fuel door
and trunk release, and tilt steering. An upgrade to the S adds features
like a white silhouette sport speedometer, leather-wrapped steering wheel,
height-adjustable driver's seat and map lights. The luxury oriented LE
edition has power windows and remote keyless entry.
Options packages add carefully conceived and comprehensive selections
of add-ons. For example, the Leather package has leather-upholstery, a
leather-wrapped steering wheel and cruise control, which can also be added
as a stand-alone optional extra. Other packages include the All Weather
Guard package, the Sport Plus package and more. A power sunroof is also
available.
Exterior Features
The exterior of the Corolla has had major changes for 2003 with a longer
wheelbase, greater height and width and a longer passenger cabin. The
sporty S model has a "factory custom" exterior styling featuring
smoked headlight lens-extenders, integrated fog lamps and an aerodynamic
body package with colour-keyed front and rear underbody spoilers, rocker
panel extensions and rear mudguards.
All three Corolla models come with 15-inch wheels, fitted with 185/65R15
tires on the CE model. The S and LE grades step up to 195/65R15 that can
ornament optional alloy wheels; available for both.
Performance
A double overhead-cam 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine produces 130 horsepower
at 6,000 rpm and 125 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. Toyota's advanced
Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimizes power delivery
throughout the engine's range, giving the Corolla punchy and reliable
acceleration that makes for comfortable highway passing and merging. The
standard five-speed manual transmission Corolla can accelerate from 0-60
mph in 9.0 seconds.
The 2003 Toyota Corolla fuel economy rating is first-rate with 32 city/40
highway mpg on the manual transmission platform, or 29/38 on the optional
electronically controlled four-speed automatic.
Safety and Security
All Corolla models come with dual-stage deployment front SRS airbags,
pretensioners and force limiters for the front seatbelts and side-impact
door beams. A family-oriented auto, the rear seat is equipped with LATCH
anchors for two child safety seats.
Optional safety equipment can add significant value with front seat side-impact
SRS airbags and an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force
Distribution (EBD).

2003 Toyota Corolla Highlights
For
2003, the Corolla is available in three grades, including a significantly
upgraded CE, the sporty S model with exclusive aerodynamic body
enhancements and the upscale LE. The CE grade is hardly a "base"
model, coming standard with many features that were previously optional
or included in upgrade models.
Compared
to the previous-generation Corolla, the ninth-generation model has
a longer wheelbase, greater height and width and a longer passenger
cabin.
Inside,
passengers enjoy more room than ever before in a Corolla. With 90.3
cu. ft. of passenger space, the Corolla is rated as a compact car,
not a sub-compact. Higher sitting positions make it easier to enter
and exit the car and provide more commanding all-around visibility.
Standard
equipment includes air conditioning with an air filter, an AM/FM/CD
sound system with four speakers, power mirrors, tilt steering wheel,
intermittent wipers, a tachometer, digital clock, a trunk lamp and
a dome light with delay. The Corolla even comes with a standard
digital outside temperature gauge, a "surprise and delight"
type feature more commonly seen on cars costing far more.
